Birmingham 2022 - Day 7 Round Up

Scotland’s para lawn bowlers continue to march on at Birmingham 2022 with another medal now guaranteed in the Para Mixed Pairs B2/B3.

Melanie Inness, George Miller (Director), Robert Barr and Sarah Jane Ewing (Director) put in an excellent display in their semi-final encounter with England to win 21-6. The quartet will now look to make history and complete the set of three gold medals from three para lawn bowls disciplines for Team Scotland. Tomorrow’s final will take place at 12noon with Scotland up against Wales.

In the Men’s Singles, Iain McLean put in two stellar performances and now prevails to tomorrow’s quarter-finals. Iain went into the day knowing he had no room for error and notched up two convincing wins against tough opposition in Jersey’s Ross Davis and New Zealand’s Shannon McIlroy. He will now play Ryan Bester of Canada in tomorrow morning’s quarter-final at 8.30am.

Stewart Anderson, Darren Burnett, Paul Foster MBE and Alex Marshall MBE were also under pressure in the Men’s Fours to deliver two wins in their final two matches against South Africa and New Zealand. As you would expect from four of the best players in the world, they embraced the challenge and delivered two solid victories to finish top of their section. The boys now come up against Northern Ireland in their quarter-final at 12noon tomorrow.

  • Group Match 3 – Men’s Singles (Iain McLean) beat Jersey 21-13

Session 2 –11.30am:

  • Group Match 4 – Men’s Singles (Iain McLean) beat New Zealand 21-4

Session 3 –3pm:

  • Group Match 3 - Men’s Fours (Stewart Anderson, Darren Burnett, Paul Foster MBE and Alex Marshall MBE) beat South Africa 15-10

Session 4 –6pm:

  • Group Match 4 – Men’s Fours (Stewart Anderson, Darren Burnett, Paul Foster MBE and Alex Marshall MBE) beat New Zealand 18-10
  • Semi-Final – Para Mixed Pairs B2/B3 (Melanie Inness with Director George Miller and Robert Barr with Director Sarah Jane Ewing) beat England 21-6
