Bowls Scotland Try Bowls Activator Programme 2023-2026

We are committed to working in partnership with clubs to grow our wonderful game. Working closely with our clubs, we continuously review our club support offerings, ensuring they meet the needs of players, volunteers, and the communities they serve.  Bowls Scotland will invest circa £65,000 over 3 years (2023-2026) to create 24 Try Bowls Activator (TBA) positions across Scotland as part of the existing Try Bowls membership growth programme.

This investment is based on one of the key recommendations from the Try Bowls survey 2022:

“Bowls Scotland to consider providing more targeted, localised, direct support for clubs in relation to membership growth and retention, in addition to the National Development Officer support”.

In addition to the Try Bowls survey recommendations, feedback from recent series of Strategy consultation sessions with clubs and key volunteers highlighted the need for strong, meaningful localised support for clubs; specifically, community to club transition, retention, and membership growth.

The decline in membership continues to be a challenge and with three National Development Officers (NDO’s) covering 821 clubs, additional support is required in this area if we are to address this trend. With more focused support at a local level, our NDOs will have increased capacity to help develop strong and sustainable clubs via our BowlsMark club development programme.

Open recruitment process for year 1 (8 TBA positions) will commence on Monday 13th February with more information available in the coming weeks.
