2023 Hong Kong Classic - Day Seven Round Up

Scotland’s Dee Hoggan and Rachel Sinclair have advanced to tomorrow’s Women’s Pairs final in the Hong Kong Classic.

The Scottish duo managed to defeat ZGMBC 4-2 in their final group match which was enough to see them finish in first place in Section B and secure their passage to the semi-final stages.

In their semi-final, Dee and Rachel faced a strong Malaysian pairing in a close encounter where momentum swung back and forth throughout the duration of the contest. After losing the first set the Scots dug deep to level the match as they won the second set 9-5.

The game now went into a 3-end tie break to determine the winner and the Scots had it all to do as they trailed 0-3 after the opening two ends. Scottish skip, Rachel, managed to play an excellent conversion shot under pressure in the last end to score three shots and level the match at 3-3. A further one end play-off was completed with Dee and Rachel scoring the single shot they required to reach tomorrow’s final.

Dee and Rachel’s final against England will take place at 2am (GMT) on Sunday 19th November and will be live streamed on the Lawn Bowls Association of Hong Kong, China YouTube channel via the following link - https://www.youtube.com/@hongkonglawnbowlsassociati1869.

Unfortunately, Paul Kane Jnr and Gary Prunty had to settle for a bronze medal in the Men’s Pairs as they bowed out at the semi-final stage.

The pairing from Airdrie Central Bowling Club got the better of KBGC 4-2 in their final group game which saw them qualify for the quarter final play off match after finishing third in Section B.

After defeating Wales in the quarter final, Paul and Gary agonisingly lost out to Malaysia 0.5-1.5 in the semi-final. Congratulations to both players on their efforts over the last week and clinching a bronze medal.
