Obituary for Alan Davidson Former Bowls Scotland Director

It is with great sadness that we have to inform the bowls community that Alan Davidson, District 9 secretary, has passed away after a short illness.

Alan had been heavily involved in bowls since coming onto the Board of the Scottish Bowling Association in 2006 and had fulfilled many positions at his club of Dunblane and local county association up to Bowls Scotland’s inception in 2010.

Being one of the first Directors of Bowls Scotland, Alan, along with Betty Aitken, took on the role of joint Directors of Competition and Events. There he managed to put forward new ideas on how to improve competitions and prior to this instrumental along with Anna Marshall in establishing the now combined women’s and men’s National Championships.

Alan was a great supporter of all Bowls Scotland events and even after he had stepped down from the role of Director in 2013 Alan still attended the National Championships with his beloved wife Mary, to help out and support the players who had qualified from his District.

A larger than life character who always had a smile on his face, support for bowls in his heart and the ability to make people laugh, Alan will be sorely missed within Bowls Scotland, his club, his county and across the whole of the bowling community.

A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at Dunblane Cathedral on Friday 15th March at 1.30pm. There will be a collection for Crohn’s disease and Spondylitis.
