GC 2018 Day Seven

Team Scotland just missed out on a bronze medal in the B2/B3 mixed pairs in one of the best matches seen at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Irene Edgar and Robert Barr and directors David Thomas and Sarah Jane Ewing played some outstanding bowls at Broadbeach BC in front of yet another fantastic crowd, but it was Team Wales who just pipped them to the medal, taking the win 13-12.

It went right down to the wire, and either team could have claimed the medal, but it was Julie Thomas and Gilbert Miles and directors John Wilson and John Byron who took to the podium.

Also on day seven of the Games, the women's pairs were in action twice. Lesley Doig and Claire Johnston beat Cook Islands 36-10 in round four but were beaten 18-11 by Malaysia in round five. They still qualify for the quarter-finals, where they will play Australia on Thursday.

In round three of the men's fours, Ronnie Duncan, Derek Oliver, Paul Foster and Alex Marshall beat England 12-8.

The women's triples quarter-finals had us on the edge of our seats as Team Scotland fought back to beat Malaysia 17-15. It was a performance full of fighting spirit from Kay Moran, Stacey McDougall and Caroline Brown. They play Canada in the semi-finals on Thursday.
