2023 Hong Kong Classic - Day Three Round Up

The 2023 Hong Kong Classic got underway over the weekend with both the Men’s and Women’s Singles events reaching their conclusion yesterday.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t to be any silverware for Scotland’s four representatives, however, they can certainly take positives going into this week's Men’s and Women’s Pairs events. Both Gary Prunty and Dee Hoggan won their opening three singles matches before being eliminated at the quarter-final stage to Wales and Philippines respectively. Meanwhile, there were first and second round exits for Rachel Sinclair and Paul Kane Jnr in an extremely talented field competing in South East Asia.

Today saw the start of both the Men’s and Women’s Pairs disciplines with Scotland competing in two rounds of group matches in both events throughout the day. In the Men’s Pairs, Paul Kane Jnr and Gary Prunty couldn’t have hoped for a better start as they recorded back-to-back 6-0 victories to currently sit in top spot of Section B. The Scots face Hong Kong, India and Wales tomorrow in what could be a key day for their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages.

Dee Hoggan and Rachel Sinclair had mixed fortunes in their opening two games in the Women’s Pairs as they suffered a 1-5 defeat to STSA in their first match of the day. However, the Scottish duo bounced back well to chalk up a 6-0 win over KCC. Tomorrow’s fixtures see Dee and Rachel take on Thailand, South Africa and Ireland as they look to get back in contention in Section B.
