Scotland v Ireland Para Test Match: Day 1 Session One Results

Scotland made a strong start to their test match against Ireland this morning at the National Centre for Bowling, Ayr. The Scots managed to record five wins and a draw from eight matches in the physically disabled and visually impaired disciplines.

In the Physically Disabled Singles, Fife’s Michael Simpson and Mark Fleming both notched up convincing straight sets wins. Michael got the better of Glenn Kaufmann 11-5 & 14-1, whilst Mark defeated Kevin McManus 10-4 & 16-2.

Both of the Physically Disabled & Visually Impaired Pairs teams unfortunately never managed to record any victories. Gary Hinks and Robert Barr lost out to the talented Linda Walsh and Brian Smyth 3-5 & 3-7. However, Mary Stevenson and Steve Key shared the spoils with Paul Fisher and Mairead Loghran as their match finished in a draw. Mary and Steve battled back from losing their first set 2-11 to clinch the second set 5-1.

Melanie Inness and James Dick both recorded straight sets victories in their respective Visually Impaired Singles encounters. Melanie overcame Liz Thompson 15-2 & 21-2 and James claimed a 8-2 & 12-2 victory against Peter Cullinan.

The spoils were shared in the Visually Impaired Pairs with Scotland managing to bring home one win and one defeat. Laura Cluxton and Ian Graham got the better of Conor Thompson and Billy Finegan 9-1 & 14-0. Amy Buck and Ross Noble narrowly lost out to Norman Rainey and Sam McAfee 4-6 & 2-3.
