Water Charge Exemptions PDF Print E-mail
The Government’s Water Charges Exemption scheme has been extended to 2015. In 2002 under the Water Industry (Scotland) Act the Scottish Executive made regulations which created a temporary rates exemption scheme until 2006. In 2004 this exemption was extended further to 2010.

What is the exemption scheme?
The exemption scheme is a Scottish government policy that allows charities and volunteer organisations to apply for relief from their water, waste water and drainage charges. There are specific criteria that must be met in order to be eligible for exemption.

Who is eligible for the exemption scheme?
The exemption scheme has qualification requirements and is not available to everyone.

You will not be eligible for charitable exemption if:

  • The property wasn’t receiving exemption as of 31 March 1999
  • The property is a retail outlet or occupied by a council
  • Your net annual income is more than £60,000
  • You are a registered charity with a permanent alcohol licence that was issued before 1 September 2009.

If you think your club qualifies for the scheme you could be reimbursed back to 1 April 2010.
