Bowls Scotland Head Coach David Gourlay has announced the 12 bowlers who will represent Scotland at a 6 Nation Test Event Series that will take place in Adelaide from 8-22 May. Gourlay is confident he has identified a dynamic dozen from the elite squad who will use the Test event to their best advantage to prepare for the World Championships down under later this year (24 November – 9 December). The 6 men and 6 women who have been chosen will compete at a number of test and international events in the season ahead as the elite squad builds towards the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. The men called up are: Commonwealth Games Gold medal winning partnership Paul Foster and Alex Marshall MBE who retained their World Indoor Pairs Championship title last week, World Triples Champion David Peacock and 2012 World Indoor Singles semi finalist Darren Burnett who has taken part in three Commonwealth Games, last year’s World Cup runner up and Atlantic Rim Triples Silver medallist Graeme Archer and Tommy Mann – a member of the 2014 Glasgow Achieve Programme. The women’s test team comprises: Atlantic Rim Pairs Gold medallists Margaret Letham and Claire Johnston, former World Champion for South Africa Lorna Smith who Skipped the Triples to Gold at the Atlantic Rim Championships, World Champion of Champions Singles Silver medallist and British Isles Singles Champion Caroline Brown and two fellow Commonwealth Games bowlers who like Brown made their debut at Delhi – Michelle Cooper and Lynn Stein. The team can draw confidence from knowing that their new coach is still very much in touch with the elite game since Gourlay continues to play at top level, recently returning from the Potters Resort where he claimed the World Indoor Mixed Pairs title and reached the semi final in the World Indoor Singles Championship. The Head Coach commented, “I believe we have selected a strong and experienced group of players with a strong team dynamic who have earned their place in the Test Team. Scotland will face a number of challenges adapting to the playing conditions and speed of the greens, however this event will be a great test of their ability to acclimatise and the experience will undoubtedly prove invaluable when they compete in the World Championships later this year.” The six nations taking part in the Test event are: Australia, Fiji, South Africa, New Zealand, Malaysia and Scotland.
